Nervous Tension

29 April, 2008

I am so anxious and nervous at the moment it is ridiculous.

I had a job interview on Monday which is now down to 2 people, me and one other guy and I will be finding out some time this week. Honestly I can’t stress how much this job would mean to me, I won’t go into too much detail but it would involve me working largely in the Middle East, Dubai, Saudi Arabia etc… I mean shit, jobs like this don’t come along every day!

It’s an internal position so I know the other guy quite well, in fact he’s actually a pretty good mate, so either way things are going to be pretty rough between us, and in all honesty I really can’t predict how it is going to play out. In poker terms I would says it a pocket pair vs overcards all-in pre-flop scenario, just really close.

Wish me luck!

Slovakia, Facebook, No Poker

5 June, 2007

The title pretty much sums things up, got back from Slovakia (Bratislava) last week and haven’t really done much since apart from work and recover. The trip was excellent, and just what I needed, Bratislava is very similar in setup and architecture to Prague except it has one tenth of the drunken English twats (excluding us obv), and whilst we were there, 30+ degree temperatures constantly… lush!

I’ve also given into group peer pressure and finally joined www.facebook.com and have to say I actually quite like it! It’s kind of like Myspace for adults, much cleaner and less of the chavyness. So err yeah join up and find me, I’m Andi Ellwood obviously. You can also see a bunch of pics and videos on there from the Slovakia trip, plus lots of other random pics.

This is a pokerblog?! Oh yeah! Ermm I’ve hardly played since I came back so not much to report. I think I’m gonna do another SNG challenge shortly, as it seems the only way I can motivate myself to put in the hours. Dunno what yet, but I’m thinking of doing something stupid like 400 games in one month at the $33’s or $55’s. That would probably kill me, but should bring in somewhere in the region of $3.5k to $5k depending on what level I play at and how good or bad I run. This is mainly motivated by the fact that I want a new car, and a fast one at that, plus I wanna take at least $3k or $4k to Vegas, so over the next few months I wanna earn about $12k at poker. Hmmm. We’ll have to see on that one.

No poker tonight as I’m taking a teenage girly out for a drink, who I’m pretty sure is going to make me feel really old and start thinking about silly things like getting a proper girlfriend and settling down, but meh, bite me, I’m sure I’ll enjoy the evening.

Anyways, I’m back now, so will be posting more often, and come find me on Facebook!

I should post more often.

7 May, 2007

I really should! I hate having to write long posts and trying to remember crap I did like 2 weeks ago.

Ok, pokerwise has been a bit weird, have started playing a bit more often, I won another tournament on Full Tilt last week, $30+3 but only a small-ish field so 1st was good for $720, which was nice. This weekend I decided to spend all day Saturday playing and well ermm things didn’t go so well, in fact I had my biggest single day loss on record, which was pretty gross. Basically I was getting cold decked left right and centre and didn’t win a single flip, then I went on monkey tilt and started playing $109’s. Yey, ship the +$1k loss.

Oh well, it’s all relative I guess, and it’s only a small dent on my roll.

As a result of this I’m gonna go back to grinding the STT’s to re-assure myself I can win. In an effort to motivate myself (cos playing a billion stt’s is like chewing gravel) I’m gonna set myself a challange. I’m gonna be 4 tabling the $33’s, and would like to try play say 100 games in the next 10 days? (10 days cos I’m off on a 5 day piss up in Slovakia then). 100 too low? I really don’t get chance to play that often so it will probably require fitting in 15-20 games per session. Yeah ok I like the sound of that, I will update in the blog after every session with all my stats so you can laugh at how bad/good I run.

In other news, I completely ignored my detox, and got completely trolleyed last weekend, v.v.messy. All day drinking in the sun, lots of beautiful girls, then an all night mash up back at my place that finished Sunday lunchtime. My neighbours love me. This weekend was a much more sedate affair, Friday night visited some friends in Hebden Bridge and we went out to a lush Thai restaurant, how very mature. Saturday was… well I already talked about that, it’s now taboo and never to be mentioned again. Sunday (lastnight) was a little more hectic, went to some bank holiday special club night at the Faversham, it was a bit pants, we only went cos my friend was DJing in the backroom, the main room was like an embarrasing white boy version of 8 Mile (It all be Hip Hop and rappers yo!), which is definately not up my street. Needless to say, we got drunk and had a good time anyway.

Sooo, I am now definitely on detox, and am gonna be chewing gravel with the stt’s for the next 10 days, can’t wait!

Vegas Baby!

24 April, 2007

We’re going to Vegas baby!

So me, Lardy and Brass are booking ourselves for a week of poker, booze and strippers in Vegas come November, can’t wait bring it on. Not really had a chance to look into things properly yet, will probably play in the Bellagio $500 daily tournament, then spend the rest of the week donking about and drinking with strippers.

Anyways, more info to come on this one.

Things have been pretty hectic recently with lots of messy nights out, so not really played much poker, however I’m planning a litte detox over the next few weeks prior to me and a bunch of mates heading off for 5 days of madness in Bratislava, so hopefuly I’ll be able to put in quite a few decent hours of cards before then.

I’m back…

7 April, 2007

Wow worst bad beat ever, moved house 3 weeks ago and was unable to connect to any local wireless networks, and it has taken me 3 frikken weeks to get broadband installed! Anyways all is good now, I have superfast broadband and sattelite tv for when the poker is killing me. Ermmm I’m too lazy right now to make a big long post, so here’s what I’ve done in the last 3 weeks (no particular order, just train of thought)…

  • Moved house
  • Spent a fortune at ikea
  • Cursed the man who invented ikea and those stupid tiny little allan keys
  • Played ZERO poker for 3 weeks
  • Spent half my bankroll on getting wasted an having fun
  • Bought an awesome huge17" laptop for an obscene sum of cash
  • Worked crazy hard
  • Drank and smoked way too much
  • Pulled a lovely young girl
  • Have apparently been blown out by aforementioned girl
  • Spent a weekend of drunken poker and gambling degeneracy with Lardy
  • Sat at a poker table with a WSOP bracelet winner (Lawrence Gosney)
  • Been busted by a WSOP bracelet winner
  • Discovered Lardy is a complete nit who even ratholed when he got ahead in a very drunken heads up game
  • Assigned new poker nick… Lardy "TheHedge" Fatboy
  • Contributed quite considerably to the problems in Columbia
  • Didn’t sleep enough

Ok, I think that covers most of it, here’s a pic of my shiny new laptop in my new pad…

I work too hard…

7 March, 2007

With my old job I used to spend my days pissing around playing games on the internet and generally avoiding "work" as much as possible. As a result I was quite often found online playing cards till 2/3am. Since I started at my new place I work so god damn hard that I’m absolute shattered by midnight on a week night, and am usually in bed by that point. Annoying.

Anyways that was a pre-cursory explanation as to why I’ve played so little in the last few days, and here are my brief notes

$22 stt 9th, someone slowplayed AA like a spazz, and I played 99 like a bigger spazz
$33 stt 1st $135
$33 stt 1st $135 I run goot
$22 stt 3rd $36
$62 mtt 14th $123
$33 stt 7th, bad beat
$22 stt 4th gay double beat on bubble
$33 stt 4th sick sick sick
$22 stt 1st $90

May play the Stars Sunday million this week as it’s the anniversary and a $1.5mill gtd prize pool. Anyone else up for it? Sidebets ahoy!

It’s been a long long time baby…

3 March, 2007

Wow o wow, long time no posty, I sincerely apologise to you my diligent readers, yes all 3 of you.

Okey dokey, update on my life, will try cover everything.

Went to Aspers Casino in Newcastle a couple of weeks ago to play in there Friday night £22 MTT. Man that place rocks, one of the best card rooms I have ever been to, they actually cater for pokerplayers, rather than treating them as an irritant. The tournament didn’t go too well, I actually thought it was a £33 freezeout, with 4k stacks, 45 min starting clock, and 25/50 blinds, but apparently that’s Saturday night, so I was actually in a £22 freeze out, with 3k stacks, and a 20min(!!!) clock. Not quite so good. The card room is huge, 200 players and dealers, fantastic. The table I started at didnt have a dealer unfortunately, so one guy volunteered, and the card room manager apologised and gave him some free drinks and food vouchers, classy, nice touch guys, thumbs up. Take note Grosvernor, Gala et al, the entire casino was packed, and you can tell why.

So anyway, the tourney. With the blinds being so fast and the field pretty big, it was quite obvious that you had to make moves. First hand I play was in BB, A9c. 3 limpers, flop A high, I bet out and get one caller. turn is a brick. I bet, guy calls. River is another brick but completes back door flush. I check/call a half pot bet, he turns A8s for rivered flush.

Next hand I play was AKh, I re-raise an early raiser, and a short-ish stack moves all in behind me, great. I have to call, although given the structure I would probably have called if deeper anyway. He turns 1010 and I miss. Super! 30 mins in and I’m down to 900. Very next hand I pick up JJ, early pos raises, one caller, I push, 1st guy folds, 2nd guy thinks for an aaage, and calls with A…2. Sooted. I win a hand, at last.

I manage to win a few pots uncontested with AQ and AJ etc and build up to about 4k. However the blinds eventually get the better of me. Blinds at 300/600 and going upto 400/800 very next hand I pick up AQh in mid position. Guy utg, who I had pinned as being fairly decent insta-moves all-in for about 3.5k. I kind of suspect he didn’t even look at his cards, anyways it’s an obvious push for me. Heads up, he flips QJ, first card out… J. Adios me. I stick in my less than BB next hand and am out.

Overall the tournament was a bit pants for me. The structure wasn’t great, but for the buy-in you can’t complain, and it’s still much better than any of the Yorkshire casinos. I don’t think I could have done anything different with the cards I had, I never won a coinflip, and lost twice with dominating hands in big pots.

Anyways, the side action was great, plenty of cashgames and a proper system of signing up for a seat etc. They also had those electronic tables with digital touch screens, kind of like playing internet poker when you’re all sat together. So I went to sign up for the £1/2 NL cashgame on the electronic gizmo (I was gonna short stack ninja it, no way was I sitting with a full buy-in, it was the loosest craziest table I’ve ever witnessed, 3 people all in by the river minimum on nearly every hand, juicy!) but as I was walking over I noticed that some of "internet kids" were setting up an £11 SnG on the electronic table, so I jumped on in that instead, more my style. I gotta say I really enjoyed the electronic table, much much faster, however you obviously don’t get any verbal etc which is a shame, I think they will be good for mid/low stakes cash games and tournaments, however anything of serious value will definitely still be hands on with a dealer and chips. The structure of the sng was brutal, you started with 30xBB and the blinds doubled every 12 hands. I cruised upto chip leader by slowplaying AA (yeah I know, I’m a sado masochist) against the table "captain" and knocking him out., but then by the time got to like 4 or 5 handed it was just pure push bot stuff. Got heads up with a funny guy on my left, we’d both been talking a load of bollocks and messing about showing each other cards etc, however the blinds were ridic at this point and we both had like 4bb so agreed to just shove it blind 1st hand. Obv I lost despite having the high card. 2nd place good for some money though, and it was much fun.

All in all the trip was a great experience of Newcastle (friendly folks!) and Aspers casino especially. Heard a rumour that they were considering opening one in Leeds, I have my fingers crossed!

Some pictures, bit crappy because they’re from my camara phone.

My view on the "Pokerpro" table. Gives you an idea of how it works.

The Tyne Bridge. I sang "Fog on the tyne is all mine all mine…" whilst driving over it, because I’m easily amused. This pic was taken over the road from my mates Quay side apartment. Rich bugger!

The tyne, and Gateshead Millenium bridge, photo taken from the top of the Art Gallery (because I’m a cultured mother fucker).

In other news, I’m still working really fkin hard. Flew down to Southampton last week to spend the week meeting and greeting my customers. Was fun getting a flight in my suit, I felt like mr important, right up to to the point the jobsworth cock at the airport threw away most of my toiletries in case I managed to harness a WMD from a can of gillette shaving foam and some hair wax.

Anyways, the week was good, lots of drinking and good meals on company expenses.

Been quite a few good nights out recently, and lots of nice restaurants, although the details escape me right now, I should probably drink less (or blog more often!).

Had a good one last weekend, v.v.messy. Went out on the lash with some friends round town, ended up in Wire club (indie night), then piled back to a mates city centre apartment for an impromptu party, things got somewhat screwed up, we ran out of booze and stuff, so then decided to head over to Glasshouse, hard house after-hours club, this was at approx 7am. Bumped into a mate outside Glasshouse which was funny, neither of us knew the other was into "that sort of stuff", then we both thought, "what the fuck would you been doing going to a club at 7am if you weren’t a mash up?!" So he joined us, we got completely trolleyed, left the club at about 10am and went back to mine for a few lunch time beers (we closed the curtains, degenerates), then eventually I passed out at about 1pm sunday afternoon. Jeez louise! Messy. Very very messy.

Some random pics from the nightout…

The most indescrete urinal ever. This is on a street corner in Leeds city centre. Obviously we took a photo. My mate was a braver man than me by actually touching the frikken thing.

ZOMBIES! Some girls were at the party dressed as Zombies. Why? I don’t fucking know. How did they walk through Leeds without being lynched? I don’t fucking know, but it made me laugh. Surreal.

In other other news, I’m moving house! My housemate wants to shack up with his girlfriend, (no comment on this, I’ve stated that I think it’s a bad idea, lets just leave it at that.) So I’m getting my own pad in the lovely (haha) area of Armley. It’s actually not that bad, and the flat is really nice so I’m looking forward to it.

The internet poker thing… is a redundant statement at the moment. For various financial reasons I’ve currently got like hardly any money online, so I’m currently debating whether to go on a mad small stakes brain cancer-inducing, multi tabling hellish session to re-build. Or to just max my credit card for a month and then withdraw 30 days later. Hmm.

Anyways, I think that about covers most things. I’m DEFINITELY going to be writing more often now because this post is ridiculous (1367 fucking words!) and is the longest piece of writing I have done since Uni.

Adios folks.

Happy new year!

2 January, 2007

Happy new year folks!

I hope you all had a great a crimbo and a very messy NYE, I certainly know I did.

So blimey 2006 has been and gone, that was a bit quick! Well I guess it’s time for an annual review and my hopes and predictions for 2007.

Well 2006 was a good year for me and poker, I feel I made some great breakthroughs in my game and the latter part of the year was certainly very profitable. In June I switched my main account from William Hill to Pokerstars and July/August I had an excellent run of MTT cashes.

So the figures (net profit rounded to nearest $500):

Single Table Tournaments: $7000
Multi Table Tournaments: $13,500
Total Profit: $20,500

Interestingly the divide is Jan-May on Will Hill $7,500, and June-Dec on Pokerstars $13,000.

2007, predictions and resolutions.

I’m done with STT’s. Finished. Kaput. Cash games (6 max) are definitely the way forward. Unlike my previous attempt where I got owned at 200NL, I’m starting like a complete newbie at the very bottom and am going to work my way up, I want to be certain I can crush every level before moving up stakes, so if you see me playing 50NL this week then you now know why. I started this a couple of days ago and am already $250 in profit   from a small sample of hands, so I’m feeling super confident about this new challenge and this has really inspired my passion again. I’ve really enjoyed browsing the SSNL forums on 2+2 and applying new techniques to my game.

Anyways, my aim is to be confidently beating 100NL by the end of January, by March I would like to be a regular in the 200NL game. In doing this I will probably be looking to move sites again, to somewhere with slightly worse cash game players and more importantly somewhere I have rakeback. Any suggestions folks?

In other news, I’m now officially on January detox. I’ve physically and mentally destroyed myself in the last 2 months, so until Jan 20th (night out pre-planned) I will not be touching any booze or other substances. This should mean I’m also fresh and funky whilst learning cash games, which is probably a good thing.

I will also be making much more regular updates on here and will be posting more hand histories, hopefully asking for some input from you guys to help with the learning process.

Well I think that just about covers everything. Good luck folks!

Busy busy busy…

5 October, 2006

Wow, long time no write. Not much really to say related to this blog. I’ve been super busy with my new job and have really neglected my poker. I have still been playing occaisionally but nothing spectular and no major hours put in. Been running bad in the stt’s, but then I tend to do so when I don’t keep my hand in and am not really focusing properly.

Bizzarely I took 4th place in a Pot Limit Omaha H/L mtt the other night for a few hundred, which I found amusing given my limited knowledge of Omaha H/L. Basically just used solid tournament strategy and played really aggro in position.

Even more bizzarely, the US goverment have finally gone completely insane and banned online poker. Apparently the taxation of this industry for the US govt. would be worth in excess of $3billion, however they felt it was more important to ban it completely and preserve their neo-right wing "family values". Yeah ok, that makes sense. So, the knock on effect for us European players isn’t going to be good, the good ole boys in the US of A account for 80% of online players, share prices are plumetting and the industry is in a bit of a panic. We await with baited breath to see the full out come of this truely odd scenario.

Anyways, for the time being, I’m now back into my poker and will be updating more often with my high and lows, may aswell make the most of it whilst everyone is still around.

Back of the net!

18 August, 2006

Got back from my 2nd interview an hour ago, and have just had a phonecall offering me the job! I start in 4 weeks. Hurrah.

In other news, congrats to the man with the plan from the Phillipines, Gensui, who just took down the $10 re-buy for a massive $14k!
