Update!

31 January, 2007

Coming someday to a blog near you!

Does anyone even check this anymore in a futile hope that I’m not a lazy ass?

Cashgames suck donkey cock, and I’ve always promised myself this blog wouldn’t contain any badbeats so I’m essentially silencing myself. I’ve even started playing small stakes SNG’s to repay the bad beats. I may become a donkament donkey again to be honest, finances are bad at the moment and I can’t afford to not have a regular income from poker.

In other news, work are sending me off for a week in a jetplane… to sunny Southampton. Jeez do the badbeats never end!

In order for this entry not to be a complete waste of mne and yours time, I’ll make you laugh. Here is a picture of me at 15 years old.

Oh dear...

YES! I’m wearing sunglasses indoor.

YES! I’m stood in my friends bedroom.

YES! I have a long floppy curtains haircut.

YES! I’m fucking cool, haha.

Cash Games Update

12 January, 2007

Man I suck at cash games. Not entirely, but it feels like it at times. So hows my first week or so gone? Slowly and painfully is the answer. I can certainly beat the low levels, by how much I wouldn’t like to say. I started off pretty well making over $300 at $50NL in a few days, then I proceeded to donate most of it back. I had a nice 3 buy-in monkey tilt session, and have struggled to make a run since. I’m in profit at the 3 levels I’ve played at (25NL, 50NL and 100NL) but not by much at all.

My observations:

  • I pay off river bets too often, nobody check calls to the river and then raises or re-raises your river bet without the nuts or near as. I can probably count on my hands the number of times people are bluffing the river. STOP CALLING!
  • I have difficulty folding to silly bets, min re-raises etc.
  • I hardly ever fold AA or KK, this in general is certainly +EV at these stakes, however sometimes it is still required.
  • I’m good at maximum extraction, I’m always betting, potting and never slowplaying. Definitely the way forward. I read a nice article on the EV of pushing the river with the nuts when it’s a massive overbet. Whilst you very rarely get called, it only takes one person to do so when you’re deep stacked, and it suddenly is much more profitable compared to the silly milking bets I keep seeing. $2 bet into a $20 pot with the nuts? "because I wanna get paid" STOP IT YOU MORONS!
  • Cashgames can be very cruel. The bad beats seem relentless in cash games, however this is probably because I’m concentrating more and really want to win.
It’s gonna take me awhile to get the hang of this stuff, but I’m certainly not quitting.

Happy new year!

2 January, 2007

Happy new year folks!

I hope you all had a great a crimbo and a very messy NYE, I certainly know I did.

So blimey 2006 has been and gone, that was a bit quick! Well I guess it’s time for an annual review and my hopes and predictions for 2007.

Well 2006 was a good year for me and poker, I feel I made some great breakthroughs in my game and the latter part of the year was certainly very profitable. In June I switched my main account from William Hill to Pokerstars and July/August I had an excellent run of MTT cashes.

So the figures (net profit rounded to nearest $500):

Single Table Tournaments: $7000
Multi Table Tournaments: $13,500
Total Profit: $20,500

Interestingly the divide is Jan-May on Will Hill $7,500, and June-Dec on Pokerstars $13,000.

2007, predictions and resolutions.

I’m done with STT’s. Finished. Kaput. Cash games (6 max) are definitely the way forward. Unlike my previous attempt where I got owned at 200NL, I’m starting like a complete newbie at the very bottom and am going to work my way up, I want to be certain I can crush every level before moving up stakes, so if you see me playing 50NL this week then you now know why. I started this a couple of days ago and am already $250 in profit   from a small sample of hands, so I’m feeling super confident about this new challenge and this has really inspired my passion again. I’ve really enjoyed browsing the SSNL forums on 2+2 and applying new techniques to my game.

Anyways, my aim is to be confidently beating 100NL by the end of January, by March I would like to be a regular in the 200NL game. In doing this I will probably be looking to move sites again, to somewhere with slightly worse cash game players and more importantly somewhere I have rakeback. Any suggestions folks?

In other news, I’m now officially on January detox. I’ve physically and mentally destroyed myself in the last 2 months, so until Jan 20th (night out pre-planned) I will not be touching any booze or other substances. This should mean I’m also fresh and funky whilst learning cash games, which is probably a good thing.

I will also be making much more regular updates on here and will be posting more hand histories, hopefully asking for some input from you guys to help with the learning process.

Well I think that just about covers everything. Good luck folks!
